Cnoc a' Chalmain - The 'Hill of the Dove'

Single and twin room accommodation is available at the House of Prayer for pilgrims of all faiths seeking a haven of peace and quiet.

Downstairs: 2 Twin Rooms and 1 Single Room.
Upstairs: 1 Single Room and 1 Twin Room.
All rooms are en-suite.

For 2024, the accommodation tariff is £95 per person per night for dinner, bed and breakfast (dinner consists of a 2-course set menu). In the low/winter season a bowl of soup is provided at lunchtime only if no other eating place is open on the island. Our bed and breakfast rate is £70 per person per night.

We have a 2 night minimum stay policy except for last minute bookings. A non-refundable deposit of £10 per person per day is payable when booking.

Cancellations occurring within two weeks of arrival will be charged in full. We strongly advise all guests to arrange adequate travel insurance cover in the event of you having to cancel your stay with us.

Guests may occupy their rooms from 3.30pm on their day of arrival. If guests arrive earlier they are welcome to leave their luggage in the front porch until staff return to the building for 3.30pm.

Please notify us at the time of booking if you require a ground floor room.

You must notify us in advance of any special dietary requirements and/or allergies.

In line with current Safeguarding Regulations all Priests wishing to celebrate Mass in the Oratory must present a copy of their Celebret.

In addition Priests staying at the House of Prayer must provide a Testamonial Letter completed and signed by their Bishop or Superior (Testamonial Form may be downloaded here) the completed form must be returned to The Warden, Roman Catholic House of Prayer, Iona PA76 6SP  PRIOR to arrival.

A single room, breakfast and evening meal is offered free of charge for up to 2 weeks for a Roman Catholic Priest who is willing to say Mass in our Oratory each day and carry out some light duties as agreed with the Warden/Chaplain.  We are only able to offer this to one Priest at a time.

  • Guests bringing heavy luggage are advised to book the Iona taxi, as the track to the House is not suitable for wheeled suitcases.
  • Smoking is permitted outside only.
  • We are unable to accept guests under the age of 18 yrs.
  • Pets are not permitted.
  • Payment by Pounds Sterling only.
  • Mobile phones to be used discreetly and sparingly.
  • Quiet is appreciated in and near the Oratory.
  • Bookings are subject to the discretion of the Colmcille Trustees.
  • It is advisable to book early.
  • If, for mobility reasons, you require a ground-floor room please advise at time of booking.
  • You must notify us in advance of any special dietary requirements and/or allergies.
